The Nanaimo Canoe and Kayak Club is looking for hard-working, dedicated individuals to lead our 2016 Summer Camp Programs!

We currently have six coaching positions available for our 2016 summer camps at Loudon Park, Nanaimo. Come share your passion for paddling and the outdoors on beautiful Long Lake where you will lead and inspire young campers to do their best and have fun!

JUNIOR SUMMER CAMP LEADERS (2 positions open)

Position Objectives:

  • Promote a fun, supportive and well organized program in a safe environment
  • Support team-building and fair play
  • Encourage all participants to achieve

Skills, knowledge and experience:

  1. CanoeKids National Coaching Certification or higher
  2. Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
  3. Competent swimming skills.
  4. Pleasure Craft Operators Certification
  5. Effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  6. Ability to work as a team player
  7. Goal oriented
  8. Previous experience with adaptive programs is an asset.
  9. Recreational and/or Sprint Paddling experience.

Expectations:

  1. To work cooperatively with all of the coaching staff.
  2. As a coaching team member you will be responsible for the daily operation, safety, security and cleanliness of the canoe club and equipment
  3. To create and deliver a fun and safe program for all club members and campers.
  4. To assist in the execution of special events and/or fundraisers.
  5. To respect the clubs policies regarding fair play and equity.
  6. To offer the club constructive feedback on various areas of administration as related to program delivery.
  7. Other duties as required by the Board.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
Start Date: June 27th, 2016

SENIOR SUMMER CAMP LEADERS (4 positions open)

  • Support team-building and fair play
  • Encourage all participants to achieve

  1. CanoeKids National Coaching Certification or higher
  2. Standard First Aid with CPR Level C
  3. Competent swimming skills, Bronze Medallion or Red Cross.
  4. Pleasure Craft Operators Certification
  5. Effective interpersonal, organizational and communication skills
  6. Ability to work as a team player
  7. Goal oriented
  8. Previous experience with adaptive programs is an asset
  9. Recreational and/or Sprint Paddling experience.

Expectations:

  1. To work cooperatively with all of the coaching staff.
  2. To actively promote the canoe club in the local school and community programs with the intent of recruiting potential members
  3. As a lead coaching team member you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation, safety, security and cleanliness of the canoe club and equipment.
  4. To mentor volunteer and junior coaches.
  5. To create and deliver a fun and safe program for all club members and campers.
  6. To assist in the execution of special events and/or fundraisers
  7. To respect the clubs policies regarding fair play and equity.
  8. To offer the club constructive feedback on various areas of administration as related to program delivery.
  9. Other duties as required by the Board.
