The zone six canoe and kayak team had a great run at the BC Summer Games this year. NCKC had six athletes participating in a number of multi-discipline paddling events: Canoe (singles, doubles and fours), Kayak (singles, doubles, and fours), a six-person outrigger canoe (team event), a whitewater slalom event and a skills competition on the Nanaimo River.
Kudos to NCKC’s Ianna Folkes for bringing home four medals in Canoe/kayak this year. To start, Folkes and NCKC teammate, Clare Shuley won Gold in the Girls C2 500 Learn to Train event. Then Folkes, Shuley, Jacob Horwood (Nanaimo) and Nic Dann (Victoria) took a gold in the boys/girls K4 500m. Folkes won her third gold medal in the K1 2000m open and then she snagged a bronze in the K1 500m train to train event.
Way to go Ianna! You’ve worked hard and we’re so proud of you!
