Recreation Leaders

Are you a youth aged 15-30yrs who enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities and passionate about the outdoors, active healthy living, wellness, and water sports? Join the NCKC Leadership Team where you are a role model working towards NCKC’s motto of “Building Paddlers for Life”. Working with Club members and program participants, Recreation Leaders will develop greater skills in customer service, teamwork, communication, digital skills, leadership, program planning, and competence on the water.

As a Recreation Leader, you will be involved in leading NCKC community outreach with school field trips and community group bookings, Learn to Paddle programs, Member Drop-ins, Special Events/Regatta Management, and youth Summer Camps.

NCKC Recreation Leader duties and responsibilities:
– providing a safe and engaging environment for all participants,
– leading games & teaching sport skills appropriate for the age and ability of program participants,
– communicating effectively with co-workers, participants, and parents,
– instructing participants on the care and proper use of Club equipment,
– adhering to NCKC & Safe Sport policies and procedures,
– demonstrating leadership, initiative, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude,
– assisting with first aid situations,
– providing active supervision of participants,
– promoting the Club & its programs, – recruiting participants into Club member programs,
– completing reports as necessary (incident, accident, first aid, timesheets, etc)
– exercising risk management to ensure the safety of others and self,
– developing lesson plans and/or weekly training calendars,
– redirecting unsafe behaviours or actions,
– working co-operatively and collaboratively to support a positive work environment,
– developing and enforcing Club rules for safety and fun,
– completing a final report,
– reporting any unsafe situations immediately to the Board of Directors,
– respecting fair play, equity, and safety,
– attending and participating fully in all training and work-related opportunities, and
– following and demonstrating NCKC health and safety practices.


Camp Leaders

The NCKC is looking for youth aged 15-30yrs who enjoy working with children and are passionate
about the outdoors, active healthy living, and water sports to assist with the delivery of its popular
summer camp program. As part of the NCKC Leadership Team, the youth Camp Leaders are role
models and work to achieve NCKC’s motto of “Building Paddlers for Life” by providing fun, safe,
engaging activities on and off the water to the children in their care. Camp Leaders will have the
opportunity to develop greater skills in leadership and teamwork, communication, customer service,
childcare, program planning, and sport skills on the water.

 

NCKC Camp Leader duties and responsibilities include:
– implementing fun, safe, and engaging summer programs which includes cooperative games,
sport skill development, and creating long lasting memories,
– working cooperatively with NCKC Leadership Team and NCKC Board of Directors,
– participating in games and demonstrating sport skills appropriate for the age and ability of campers,
– encouraging campers to try new things and supporting campers when necessary,
– communicating effectively with co-workers, campers, and parents,
– instructing campers on the care and proper use of Club equipment,
– adhering to NCKC & Safe Sport policies and Health & Safety procedures,
– demonstrating leadership, initiative, enthusiasm, a positive attitude, fair play, respect, & equity,
– assisting with first aid situations,
– providing active supervision, recruitment opportunities for participants,
– assisting with written reports as necessary (incident, accident, first aid, timesheets, etc)
– exercising safe work practices to ensure the safety of self and others,
– assisting with the development and execution of lesson plans and/or weekly camp calendars,
– redirecting unsafe behaviours or actions,
– working co-operatively and collaboratively to support a positive work environment,
– supporting and enforcing camp rules for safety and fun,
– reporting any unsafe situations immediately to the Club Coordinator & Coach,
– attending and participating fully in all training and work-related opportunities.


Canoe Kayak Instructor

Working with Club members and program participants, Canoe-Kayak Instructors provide safety and instruction on the water for Club group bookings, develop greater skills in customer service, teamwork, communication, digital skills, leadership, program planning, and competence on the water.

Canoe-Kayak Instructor duties and responsibilities

-leading games & teaching sport skills appropriate for the age and ability of program participants,

Club Program Coordinator and Coach

NCKC Club Coordinator  administers and coordinates the club’s various programs throughout the
year and  oversees the youth summer program staff, while providing leadership and quality program
delivery. The ideal candidate demonstrates good organization & planning skills, leadership, effective
interpersonal communication, initiative, positive attitude, and a passion for outdoor recreation and
water sports. As a vital part of the NCKC Leadership Team, the Club Program Coordinator and Coach is a positive role model and successfully leads programs that work to achieve NCKC’s motto of “Building Paddlers for Life” while working closely with the Boards of Directors.

Club Program Coordinator and Coach duties, responsibilities and expectations include:
-providing a safe and engaging environment for all participants,
-teaching and coaching the fundamental sport skills necessary for canoe-kayak,
-supervising and providing mentorship to summer youth staff,
-leading games & teaching sport skills appropriate for the age and ability of participants,
-communicating effectively with co-workers, participants, parents, and the public,
-instructing others on the care and proper use of Club equipment,
-adhering to NCKC & Safe Sport policies and procedures,
-demonstrating leadership, initiative, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude,
-assisting with first aid situations,
-providing active supervision of participants, staff, and volunteers,
-promoting the Club & its programs,
-recruiting participants into Club member programs,
-completing reports as necessary (incident, accident, first aid, timesheets, etc)
-exercising risk management to ensure the safety of others and self,
-developing lesson plans and/or weekly camp calendars,
-redirecting unsafe behaviours or actions,
-working co-operatively and collaboratively to support a positive work environment,
-developing and enforcing Club rules for safety and fun,
-completing program report(s),
-reporting any unsafe situations immediately to the Board of Directors,
-respecting fair play, equity, and safety,
-attending and participating fully in all training and work-related opportunities,
-promoting, scheduling, and delivering a school field trip program and community group sessions,
-overseeing the daily operation, safety, security, and cleanliness of the Club and equipment,
-assisting with a weekly, monthly, and annual plan for staffing, programming, and practices,
-leading members drop-in program with weekly skills and drills training,
-administrative tasks related to the registration and success of club programming,
-creating a fun, diverse training program and environment for the youth sprint team,
-traveling to regattas to accompany and provide support to the youth sprint team,
-following and demonstrating NCKC Health and Safety practices.
