Fall Paddling Drop-in – Dress appropriately for the cooler weather!

MON/WED: 6-8 pm until end of September – October-November: 5-7 pm.
SAT: 10-12 noon. Big Canoes may be used in place of small boats.

For information: commodore@nckc.ca

Join us on our beautiful, long lake for some unstructured paddling time with friends and family. Members drop-in sessions are open to anyone that has taken a Splash Clinic orientation and are FREE for all adult club members. Recreational kayaks and pleasure canoes will be available to all members during these sessions. The Voyageur Canoe and Dragonboat will be available on most Saturdays and select evenings. However, adults wishing to take out a sprint kayak must first demonstrate the ability to correctly handle and care for the equipment and the skills required to self-rescue if capsized.

Please remember to come dressed for the Spring/Fall weather, with wool or synthetic/quick dry clothing, and a windproof outer layer for these chilly spring days. Water shoes, sunglasses, and a dry change of clothing are recommended in all weathers. It is always safer to paddle with a buddy. So we encourage bringing a friend out for a paddle.

NOTE: “Members are asked to check-in with the NCKC staff member or the volunteer on duty to sign in prior to taking out a boat and equipment during member drop in sessions”.

Foundational Paddling Skills for Adults Members

Prerequisites: NCKC Splash Clinic or demonstration of equivalent skills

For those who find staring at a blank gym wall uninspiring, NCKC offers an alternative Springtime fitness plan. Paddling is a low-impact, full body workout that can improve strength, endurance, and balance. Paddling sessions will build upon the skills taught in our splash clinics, and introduce a wide variety of new boats, including the voyageur canoes, pleasure canoes, single and double rec kayaks. Participants looking for an even greater challenge, will have the option to try out sprint kayaks near the end of the program.
