Our base membership includes the following benefits:

CanoeKids Weekly Half Summer Camps – July/August
The goal of these camps is to introduce youth ages 8-13yrs to the exciting world of canoe-kayak in a fun and safe environment. Campers will gain confidence in the fundamental paddling skills, enjoy dynamic games both on and off the water, and have fun with our qualified staff. Designed to build strong sportsmanship and physical literacy, it is a popular choice for many local families due to its affordability and central location within the City. Pre-requisite: Campers must be at able to swim 50 meters with a PFD or at Red Cross Swim Kids Level 5.
Recreational Paddling with NCKC
Early bird mornings or sunset evenings are spectacular on Long Lake at this time of the year! Led by akeen volunteer with paddling experience and knowledge on NCKC safety protocols, join others on the water in the club’s recreational canoes & kayaks. Pre-registration is necessary under our current COVID safety plan considering reduced numbers and physical distancing measures. Additional sessions will be offered if there is sufficient demand. Note: children and youth 15yrs and under are welcome but must be accompanied on the water by an adult.
Pre-requisite: NCKC Splash Session and Club Orientation. Participants in this program are required to wear a PFD at all times.
Coached Programs ~ Lead by a certified coach and require commitment to the program.
Junior Development Team – (8 – 13yrs)
This program is for those who have participated previously in a CanoeKids Summer Camp and want tolearn more about the sport of Sprint Canoe-Kayak. Athletes will learn and develop the FUNdamental skills for success in the sport, including: balance, propulsion and boat control. Practices are a minimum of twice per week and during the summer may be up to five (5) sessions per week. A variety of activities will be presented on and off the water for skill development and team cohesion. There may be an opportunity to participate in local regattas.
Pre-requisite: CanoeKids Summer Camp or NCKC Splash Session and Club Orientation.
Youth Sprint Team – (10 – 17yrs)
This group practices up to three (3) times per week during the spring and fall seasons generally on the water with the focus on fun and skill development. During the summer months, practices may include up to ten (10) practices per week with a variety of paddling, ultimate Frisbee, running, calisthenics, soccer, etc. In the off-season athletes training may include the following winter maintenance activities: swimming, running, field activities, cross country skiing, weightlifting, hiking, etc. Athletes may attend several regattas (canoe-kayak races), multisport games (BC Summer Games) throughout the season taking them off the Island and sometimes across the Country or south of the border to Washington State.
Pre-requisite: previous member of the Junior Development Team and/or an invitation from the Club Coach. Athletes must be able to swim 25m without a PFD or use a PFD at all times while on the water.
Adult Sprint Team – (18yrs and Up)
This group consists of adults interested in improving and maintaining their fitness, while gaining technical skills on the water. The focus is on fun competition and skill development. A great opportunity for those who enjoy multisport training and are looking for a challenge or opportunity to
diversify their paddling background. Masters may paddle up to four times per week and enjoy social outings after practice.
Pre-requisite: NCKC Splash Session and Club Orientation Session. Athletes must be able to swim 25m without a PFD or use a PFD at all times while on the water.
NCKC Refund Policy
2021-22 General Club Membership and the one-time Summer Camp Registration fee are non-refundable.
Individual program fees for Summer Camp, Sprint Training Fees, and Recreational Sessions are refundable provided 72 hours (3 days) notice is given in writing (by email). If less than 72 hours is provided, then a partial refund will be provided if there is no one on a waitlist to fill your spot. If there is someone available on the waitlist, then you will be refunded 100%. (There is a $5 charge for any cancelation via E-transfer.)
