Nanaimo Canoe & Kayak Club – Summer’s Here!

With the warm weather upon us and restrictions permitting more opportunities, the Nanaimo Canoe & Kayak Club (NCKC) is excited to welcome the community back onto the water!  Starting next week (July 5-10) the Club will host its first week of the popular half day summer camp program and lead two introductory paddling sessions for adults and families to orient them to equipment and paddling fundamentals.  In addition, Club athletes will transition from spring into summer training with great anticipation of the return to competition at regattas. There are many opportunities available for community members of all ages to give the sport of canoe-kayak a try on the waters of Long Lake this summer.

Half Day Summer Camps run weekly starting July 5 until September 3 from 9am-12noon and 1-4pm.  Youth aged 8-13yrs will learn the FUNdamental paddling skills on water through games and activities, in addition to participating in land-based play all with a focus on teamwork, sportsmanship, while staying safe & cool in, on, and around the water!  Cost is $20 for the one-time summer registration fee and $150 per camp.

Splash Sessions are offered to provide adults and families with the opportunity to try out the sport.  These are scheduled for Tues, July 6 and Thurs, July 8 from 6:30-8:30pm.  Participants will learn about the equipment available at NCKC for members, try out some of the canoes & kayaks, and can test the waters at Long Lake!  Cost for these sessions is $20 and pre-registration is required by going online to www.nckc.ca.
