IMPROVEMENTS MADE TO OUTDOOR BOAT STORAGE

Local Business Brings Holiday Spirit to Local Sports Club

December 13, 2021

Nanaimo, BC – On December 4th, members of the Nanaimo Canoe and Kayak Club felt some local holiday spirit!  Slegg Building Material’s General Manager, Michael McLean greeted members at the store with donated building materials to help keep the Club’s canoes and kayaks protected from the elements over the winter season and beyond.

Members of the Club are extremely grateful for the local businesses support.  The metal roofing will provide superior coverage in the outdoor cage structure where boats are stored at Loudon Park, Long Lake.  Club members have already started to replace the weathered tarps with the donated materials to prepare for the inclement weather.

In previous years, Club equipment has sustained damage due to falling branches, excessive water, and the weight of snow, wind, and UV light.  The Nanaimo Canoe & Kayak Club, in partnership with the Nanaimo Rowing Club, is hopeful that a new boathouse at Loudon Park is on the horizon and will be approved to properly store and care for their Club’s equipment for years to come.
